Welcome to my campaign for the 2nd Essex District State Senate seat! My name is Damian Anketell, and I am proud to be a lifelong resident of the North Shore. I grew up in Salem and now live in Peabody with my wife Lori, a dedicated nurse at Salem Hospital. Our community has shaped who I am today, and I am committed to giving back by representing your interests in the Massachusetts State Senate.
Community Service and Public Safety
My career began with the Essex County Sheriff’s Department in Middleton, MA, where I served for over a decade. I managed housing unit operations, responded to emergencies, and worked across various units including Sex Offenders and Domestic Assault. This experience reinforced my commitment to public safety and law enforcement.
Fighting the Opioid Crisis
In Gloucester, MA, I took on the role of MassCall2 Grant Coordinator and Opiate Prevention Specialist. My efforts focused on reducing opioid overdoses through community needs assessments, public health education, and collaboration with local organizations. This work demonstrated the power of community engagement in addressing critical health issues.
Developmental Services
At the Hogan Regional Center in Danvers, MA, I worked as a Developmental Service Worker III. I coordinated Individual Service Plans (ISP), ensured the well-being of individuals, and developed COVID-19 safety protocols. My role involved advocating for the rights and safety of those in my care, highlighting my dedication to social services.
Small Business OwnershipAs the owner and operator of Ground Up Construction, Inc. in Peabody, MA, I managed all aspects of real estate investment projects. From marketing and scheduling to payroll processing and quality control, I gained valuable insights into business development and economic growth.
Juvenile JusticeWhile working with the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, I served as a Juvenile Probation and Parole Officer. I developed plans for juveniles, ensured compliance with court orders, and engaged with community programs. This role emphasized the importance of rehabilitation and community support in the juvenile justice system.
Attorney General’s Office InternshipDuring my internship with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, I assisted in preparing cases for prosecution and developing training programs for law enforcement. My focus was on Internet Crimes Against Children, which underscored the importance of protecting our most vulnerable populations.
I hold numerous certifications, including FEMA certifications in Incident Command Systems and National Incident Management Systems, and training in opiate overdose prevention. My continuous learning ensures I am well-equipped to handle various challenges and serve our community effectively.
I graduated magna cum laude from Salem State College with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science, concentrating in Public Law. My education provided a strong foundation in government, economics, and law, preparing me to tackle the complexities of state legislation.
I am passionate about supporting legislation that opens our economy, reduces unnecessary regulations, and empowers small businesses. My platform includes waiving the gas tax, removing agricultural industry regulations, and streamlining the process for business creation. With nearly 20 years of experience in criminal justice, mental health, and drug rehabilitation, I am dedicated to public safety, economic growth, and the well-being of our community.
Join me in making a positive change for the 2nd Essex District. Together, we can build a brighter future for Peabody, Beverly, Salem, and Danvers. Your support is crucial, and I am committed to representing your interests with integrity and dedication.
